Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, being in close proximity, made it convenient for me to explore both destinations over the weekend. Among the highlights of my trip, riding the alpine coasters was a standout experience. Having only seen them depicted in the Alps online, encountering them in America sparked a rush of excitement within me. Furthermore, I was deeply captivated by the natural beauty that Tennessee effortlessly showcased, adding an extra layer of enchantment to my journey. The mountains and lush forests were some of the most beautiful things I've seen in a long time.

Within both of these towns there were more than enough things to do while we were visiting. There are many museums and fun shops or experiences all within a few miles of each other. Grace and I went mini golfing our first full day, located on the main road of shops in Gatlinburg. It was a fun activity to do in about an hour with not a bunch of people around. We also visited the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge which was such a unique thing to experience; we even touched water at the same temperature as when the boat sank.

For breakfast we visited the Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg, TN. The restaurant looks like the architecture is inspired by a chalet style of building. Walking in it was immediately that comfy cozy breakfast vibe and I loved it. The breakfast itself was good but I am not sure I would visit it again just because some of the food was either overcooked or just not that great. But there are plenty of other options within that area that could be a better experience!

History

The History of Gatlinburg, TN: Gatlinburg has a deep Appalachian culture, embracing its many interesting facets. There are also many places that advocate for the culture and arts of the history of Gatlinburg. One thing people in Gatlinburg put a large emphasis on is that there is a bunch of nature and wildlife that there is to experience. There are also a large number of historical sites located within this town. The people make the experience here super memorable!

TThe History of Pigeon Forge, TN:Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, once a serene valley nestled amidst the Great Smoky Mountains, earned its quirky name from the Little Pigeon River and an iron forge built by Isaac Love in 1817. Mordecai Lewis, a pioneer, built the iconic Old Mill around 1790, setting the stage for Pigeon Forge's colorful history. Fast forward to today: from exciting roller coasters at Dollywood to the bustling Parkway lined with attractions and shops. Pigeon Forge is now a place for adventure seekers and family fun enthusiasts alike. Pigeon Forge also has many resorts and welcomes people from all over the world!

The nature around Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg is simply stunning! Imagine towering mountains covered in lush greenery and colorful trees that change with the seasons. You can explore trails that lead to hidden waterfalls and peaceful streams, perfect for a relaxing hike or picnic. Always have your camera ready because you can see bears, deers and beautiful birds. No matter where you are in both towns, there is always a breathtaking view of the mountains.

Activity Guide

As mentioned before, there is a large amount of things to do within the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area of Tennessee! On our first full day we tried to explore the entire town of Gatlinburg but there is just so much to do, we only ended up walking in all of the shops and mini golfing at Treasure Quest Miniature Golf. All of the shops within Gatlinburg were pretty close together, a lot of these business buildings were inspired by Irish culture and sold a lot of Irish themed gifts, this confused me. Another place we visited just to get our caffeine fix was Maddi Mae’s Café & Creamery, they had amazing lattes and a definite recommendation if you're looking for a quick drink!

When visiting Pigeon Forge we noticed there were a lot of museums and other things to do around that area. For breakfast we visited a restaurant where there were singing chickens with names related to famous people. The restaurant is called Frizzle Chicken Café. This restaurant is also in the same parking lot as a dinner show called Comedy Barn Theater and an Alcatraz Museum. The breakfast was great and is such a fun family activity, especially once the chickens start to sing!

Alpine coasters are a very large attraction in this part of Tennessee. Personally, I know there are about eight different alpine coasters in just the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area but we only had time to ride two. These coasters are normally a one seater if you are an adult but a two seater if you have a young child with you. On the actual coaster seat you have a handle that controls the speed your cart goes down the track, allowing you to determine the amount of thrill you want to seek. There are some places that allow you to ride the coaster at night time but the downside is that it is very dark outside and you won't be able to see the nature around you. If that is something you're willing to sacrifice then I absolutely recommend!
